July 29, 2002 - Dink to Publish Book of Poetry
Hello I'am excited to say that I have my first book of Poetry to be published in the works, it will be ready in about two weeks. Anyone interested contact me at my e-mail address, dinksgenealogy@aol.com.
This is a order by pay to begin with; each book will cost pre-payed $20.00. There is no profit in this first addition. This is a trial run to see if anyone is interested. There are two poems in this book written by Analee Whelchel; She passed away in 1998. There will be a count of 97 poems in all. Most are written by Dink (Carol Frieszell).

Improvements are being made almost daily on this website. Please e-mail us your comments on the website or any news which you may have that would be of interest to other family members. Any questions you may have will be answered if you e-mail us. Your feedback and information on this website is very important in order for us to continue functioning as a family group. We are also interested in Whelchel’s who spell their name "Welchel" and "Whetchel".
I would like to personally thank Mr. John Zolnoski (husband of Gail Whelchel Zolnoski), for designing and hosting our website free of charge. There have been many hours of work and thought, which have gone into this project. John is the owner of Progressive Computer Solutions, LLC. Should you have PC needs, networking, database design, or web services, please contact John at (586) 532-8344 or by e-mail at
. We need to support those who support us in our endeavors. Thank you very much, John, for your invaluable assistance.
There is one person who has been assisting in many hours of hard work and a monetary donation in making repairs to the Whelchel Family Reunion Center for almost two years. That is Rocky Clary (husband of Susan Whelchel Clary). Without his hard work, a lot of the repairs and improvements would not have been made.
Also, last Fall, Joe Byars, Gerald Scruggs, and Scotty Scruggs assisted Rocky with roof repairs. Our many thanks go to these guys for their hard work.
In the year 2000, Roger and Mildred (Blanton) Mahaffee donated the air conditioning unit which has been installed in the Center. The installation was made in 2001, by Raymond Steve Whelchel, the current President of the Whelchel Family Reunion. Our many thanks to these people for their valuable contribution to the Center.
Our condolences go to the family of T. J. Whelchel (Gaffney, S.C.), who was the current Vice President of the Whelchel Family Reunion, who passed away at the end of 2001. He will be missed, as he has been very active in the reunion for the last several years.
Our condolences go to the family of Joseph S. Whelchel (Gaffney, S.C.), who passed away several weeks ago. Joe was always a regular at the reunions and could be called our "Historian". He worked hard on recording our ancestory and other projects to further the "Whelchel" name. He, also, will be missed.
Should anyone be interested, there is another website, which is of interest to the Whelchel, Welchel, or Wetchel families. It is http://groups.aol.com/ahistorical. The website is operated by Carol Frieszell (dinksgenealogy@aol.com), who’s mother was a Whelchel in Indiana. She is in the process of writing a family book and is looking to possibly open a museum of Whelchel memorabilia. Please pay a visit to the website.
