The annual 2010 Whelchel Family Reunion will be held on Sunday, August 01, 2010, at the Whelchel Family Reunion Center, Whelchel Road, Gaffney, South Carolina. Family and friends are requested to arrive no later than 1:00 P.M. if possible.

Family members are requested to bring covered dishes. Drinks and dinnerware will be furnished. The "traditional hash" will be served.

The Reunion Center will be open on Friday, July 31 for cleaning. Any assistance in cleaning would be greatly appreciated.

On Saturday, July 31, the Center will be open all day. Cooking of the hash will begin in the afternoon. Anyone wishing to learn and assist in cooking the hash is invited to stop by. The hash is cooked from Saturday afternoon until early Sunday morning. If you want to socialize or meet members of the family, late Saturday afternoon and evening is a good day for socializing.

A family reunion should last for two or three days, giving everyone time to socialize, reminisce, add to the family tree, etc. and to just plain enjoy yourself.

This year, I would like for each of you to plan to take the time on Saturday or Sunday to have your individual and/or family group photos taken for the family tree, which will eventually be placed on the Internet.

During the last two years, fewer people are attending the reunion on Sunday. We, as family members, need to increase our participation. Ask your family members to attend. Friends are welcome.

Please try to get as many of your family members to attend the reunion this year. Let us make it one of the largest gatherings in many years. Let's have a good time, enjoy each other’s companionship, and help to keep the Whelchel Family Reunion alive for years to come. We must attempt to get the younger generation involved and aid us in continuing our family tradition.

The Reunion Center is located on the former property of Olonzo (Lon) H. Whelchel in the Midway Community.

WE WILL SEE EACH OTHER THERE ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 01, 2010!

	From Interstate 85 (North or South), exit onto S.C. Hwy 11 and go west.
	Travel west on S.C. Hwy 11 for approximately 1½ miles to Whelchel Road. At Whelchel Road, turn left (Whelchel Road ends at Hwy 11).
	Travel Whelchel Road to the 6th driveway on the right side of the road. There will be a small Reunion Center sign. The drive runs between a small brick house and a commercial traffic sign company. Follow the drive down to a long concrete block structure with double doors in the center of the structure.

	From Interstate 85, North or South, exit on S.C. Hwy 11 and proceed East. Travel 1.8 miles to S.C. Hwy 18. You will pick up Hwy 18 at N. Logan Street.
	Cross Logan Street, following Hwy 18 through downtown Gaffney, for 5.0 miles. Turn left off Hwy 18 onto Corinth Road and continue for 0.9 miles. Turn left onto Old Brick House Road and continue for 1.3 miles.
	You will see a Housing Development Sign "Laurelwood." Turn right at sign onto Spring Lake Road and travel 0.3 miles to the dead end of Spring Lake Road. The cemetery is on the hill on the left side. A gravel pathway leads to the cemetery.
